For many reasons, the NISI MASA European Script Contest –created in 2002- is a unique initiative. Its Jury meeting for example is very special.
Every year it gathers a multicultural group of young Europeans; and each time, it has to take place in a different country of Europe! The jury aims at discussing the pre-selected scripts for several days (!) and eventually, at awarding the three best ones.
For its first edition (26 Aug.-2 Sept. 2002), the jury was composed of NISI MASA members, all aged between 18 and 28 years, coming from the seven participating countries: Belgium, Finland, France, Hungary, Italy, Portugal and Spain.
2002 was the first year to organise the Nisi Masa script writing competition in seven different European countries (Belgium, Finland, France, Hungary, Italy, Portugal and Spain).
The theme chosen for the first contest was "Idea(s) of Europe(s)" in order to foster a strong intercultural perspective, encouraging the young scriptwriters to think about their own perception of Europe, and then, to transmit it within their scripts. At total about 250 scripts were sent to the national groups between March and the 30th of June.
At the end of August, the jury, composed of national groups delegates, got together in Surgères, France, to choose the first three winners of the contest, each one getting 2.500 euros for the production of the scripts. The winners were:
