International Documentary Festival Amsterdam

IDFA, which has been taking place in Amsterdam since 1988, is the biggest documentary festival in the world. Today it spans 12 days each year, screening more than 250 international documentaries to nearly 120,000 visitors. The aim of the IDFA is to promote creative documentaries from different genres. It also prides itself in offering a topical and politically-committed programme.

There are 5 main official competitions, including selections for short and medium length works, debut and student films. Add to this a range of non-competitive categories such as panoramas, retrospectives, carte blanches, doc-animation, youth-oriented (Kids & Docs), best docs of the year, Dutch works… it makes up a vast and extremely diverse programme.
