FEST-no-backgroundFEST – Associação Cultural was established in 2004 in Espinho, Portugal. It is a non-profit NGO and it focuses its themes of work on Film, media and education. The institution was created from the drive to increase a deficitary promotion in its area of registration to art, education and media, promoting multicultural dialogue and active citizenship.

FEST AC manages its focus through a series of activities:

FEST Film Lab- a year-round series of workshops with professionals in various areas of filmmaking taking place around the world.

FEST New Directors | New Film Festival- including a competition for 1st and 2nd features (sub-divided into fiction and documentary), one for short films by directors up to the age of 30 (sub-divided into fiction, documentary, animation and experimental), as well as a series of non-competitive sections which include: NEXXT (screening showcase programmes proposed by partner film schools from around the world), Flavours of the World (dedicated each year to the cinema from a number of countries and meant to give the festival audience a taste of world cinema) or Be Kind Rewind (a section dedicated to the theme of the festival, presenting a series of films under this spotlight).

FEST Training Ground- a 6 day forum with master classes, debates and workshops, taking place at the same time as FEST New Directors | New Films Festival. Every field of the filmmaking process is covered, from directing, editing, producing and screenwriting to production design, sound design, creative research, distribution, among many others.

FEST Pitching Forum- also taking place during the festival, the FEST Pitching Forum includes 28 participating projects (7 of each kind: short, feature, documentary and TV series) which will take part in script development sessions, pitching training, a public pitching forum (attended by the jury and over 40 producers, distributors and financiers), individual feedback sessions and a day of Industry Meetings.
