Breaking Ground (BG) is a young and dynamic platform for European student films, initiated in The Netherlands. BG travels across the whole of Europe to pick up, screen, and exchange European student films. She has two main goals: giving film students a place to show their work and connecting film students to each other and to professionals from the film industry.
Breaking Ground reaches her goals by:
- Programming for several events and festivals,
like Go Short Int. Short Film Festival Nijmegen and Holland Doc (the digital documentary channel of the Dutch public broadcasters). From 2011, Breaking Ground will broaden her horizon: she plans a programming tour through Europe.
- Working together with several partners to organize get togethers for students and film professionals, like the Go Short Student Campus (a six day campus where 15 internatonal film students work together on short films guided by film professionals) and Three Day Film at Cinestud (making a short film in three days).
- Organizing her own festivals/events like Breaking Ground NL (a bi-monthly film night for Dutch film students) and Breaking Ground Festival (planned in 2012) both in collaboration with EYE film institute the Netherlands.
- Besides all this Breaking Ground is planning to bring the concept of Breaking Ground NL to other countries in Europe.
Breaking Ground is organized by 15 people from the Netherlands. At the moment BG is also speaking to people from other countries to organize BG events in the rest of Europe.
